Once you are registered to vote, there are three ways you are able to vote leading up to the election.

To request you ballot by mail, you must first fill out an application requesting to use vote-by-mail in the upcoming election. To do so, you must fill out the following application and send it back to the Somerset County clerk. The application much be sent to the county at least 7 days before the election. Once the application has been submitted, you will NO LONGER be eligible to vote in person.

You may also apply to vote-by-mail in person at the County office up until 3 pm the day before the election.

When your application has been approved, you will be sent a vote-by-mail ballot by the county. Ensure your packet has the following:

  • A ballot
  • An inner envelope with an attached certificate
  • A mailing envelope

Once you fill out your ballot, you can return it in one of three ways:

  • Mail: it must be postmarked postmarked on or before 8:00 p.m. Election Day and be received by your county’s Board of Elections on or before 6 days after Election Day
  • Secure Ballot Drop Box: Place it in one of your county’s secure ballot drop boxes by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Click here to see drop box locations in Somerset County.
  • Board of Elections Office: Deliver it in person to your county’s Board of Elections Office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Click here to find Somerset County offices.

Early voting is an in-person method of voting, where the County will designate between 3-10 machine voting locations for residents to vote before the election day. This is a convenient way to vote if there is a scheduling conflict the day of voting, or for another personal reason.

For the upcoming November 4, 2025 General election, early voting will be open from Saturday, October 25, 2025 – Sunday, November 2, 2025. Voting early will NOT be available the day before the election.

On the day of the election, you are able to find a designated, in-person location to vote by polling machines. Prepare for the potential of a long wait ahead of time by wearing the appropriate clothing attire and bringing fluids to stay hydrated.
